Computing
The
next goal of National Grid Inc.
is to create a grid computing
infrastructure. National Grid
Inc. will provide a virtual resource
pool through its Gridcenter.org,
which will connect all available
idle resources on the users of
N*Grid middleware. User will be
able to sell idle computing resources
to N*Grid over the internet, which
N*Grid in turn will be able to
sell to other users whose needs
surpass their capacity on a pay-per-usage
basis. Therefore, National Grid
Inc. will be able to generate
revenues through the intermediation
of compute resource transaction.
Moreover, software vendors
will be able to generate benefits from
N*Grid¡¯s grid infrastructure. The current
trend of software sales is moving from
selling a finished, single-package product
into supplying the desired service and
application over the internet, and charging
the users on a pay-per-usage basis.
Therefore, by supplying applications
that are compatible on N*Grid middleware,
vendors will be able to provide application
services without facing the difficulties
of providing services over the internet,
monitoring usage and billing users.
These steps will transform National
Grid Inc. from an application producer
and vendor to a general service provider,
and especially as a provider of computing
resources. The resulting environment
will be able to propel National Grid
Inc. into a utility company of computing
resources, as well as the intermediary
of software applications, in a universal
service much like that of Microsoft
and Google.
